Joplin regional stockyard report

The Joplin Regional Stockyards, Joplin, Mo., reported receipts of 4,500 head Sept. 22, compared to 4,525 head last week and 6,021 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market Ns Service, Jefferson City, Mo.

Compared to last week, steers under 700 pounds were $1 to $3 lower, heifers under 700 pounds were $2 to $5 lower, yearlings over 700 pounds were steady. Demand and supply were moderate to light. The bulk of the calves were in medium to fleshy condition and most had not been through a working chute. The recent USDA Cattle On Feed Report showed 97% on feed, 97% placements, and 91% marketed. The placements were smaller than most expected. The feeder supply included 41% steers, 3% Holsteins, 42% heifers, 14% bulls, with 42% over 600 pounds.

Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 400 to 500 lbs., 105.00 to 116.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 100.00 to 109.00, thin 106.00 to 112.50; 600 to 700 lbs., 100.00 to 108.50, lot 622 lbs., thin 109.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 100.00 to 108.00; 800 to 875 lbs., 101.50 to 103.25; lot 917 lbs., 100.50. Medium and large frame 2, 475 to 500 lbs., 97.00 to 101.00; 500 to 550 lbs., 100.00 to 101.00, package thin 103.00; 600 to 675 lbs., 94.00 to 103.50; package 701 lbs., 100.00.
