Salina livestock auction report
The Farmers and Ranchers Livestock Commission Co., Salina, Kansas, reported receipts of 4,187 head selling on Jan. 4, compared to 2,897 head selling at the Dec. 21 sale, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News, Dodge City, Kansas.
This was the first sale in 2018. Receipts were higher even with the cold weather still in the area that included very low temperatures and terrible wind chills. Steers and heifers were selling considerably higher than the last sale in 2017. Trade was active and demand good. Receipts included 88% 600 pounds and over, 11% 600 pounds and under and 01% slaughter cows. The feeder supply 64% steers and 36% heifers, with 88% 600 pounds and over.
