Winter Livestock auction report

The Winter Livestock feeder cattle auction, Dodge City, Kansas, reported receipts of 3,267 head, Feb. 7, compared to 4,587 head, last week, and 2,791 head, last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News, Dodge City, Kansas.

Compared to a week ago, the feeder steers and heifers were steady with instances of $2 to $3 higher and steer and heifer calves were selling with a higher undertone compared to last week’s light supply. There was good demand for all classes on an active market. There were several long strings of back grounded feeder steers and heifers including full load lots. The flesh condition of feeder cattle was moderate to moderate plus. The flesh condition of calves was light to moderate. The slaughter cows and bulls were selling $4 to $5 higher. The offering included 82% of feeder cattle weighing over 600 pounds, 5% was slaughter cows and bulls and 2% was replacement cows. The feeder supply was 60% steers and 40% was heifers.
