Ft. Smith livestock auction report

The Ft. Smith Stockyards, Ft. Smith, Arkansas, reported receipts of 1,622 head selling on March 5, compared to 450 head a week ago and 1,045 head last year, according to the Arkansas Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Little Rock, Arkansas.

Compared to a week ago, feeder steers were mixed with 300 to 400 pound weights and weights over 600 pounds selling $4 to $6 higher and 400 to 600 pounds selling steady to $3 lower. Feeder heifers under 500 pounds were selling $12 to $16 higher, over 500 pounds were selling steady to $1 higher. Slaughter cows and bulls were selling steady to $2 higher. Value added denotes cattle weaned for at least 45 days, castrated and administered two sets of pre-conditioning vaccines. The supply included 948 feeder calves, 432 feeder yearlings, 127 replacement cows, 85 slaughter cows, 24 slaughter bulls and 6 replacement bulls. The feeder supply included 56% steers, 40% heifers and 5% bulls. Nearly 36% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.
