Tulia Livestock Auction report

The Tulia Livestock Auction, Inc., Tulia, Texas, reported receipts of 1,975 head selling on May 17, compared to 3,098 head a week ago and 2,771 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to a week ago, feeder steers and heifers were selling $4 to $9 lower. Trade activity and demand were moderate after the feeder cattle board struggled throughout the week. The trading area is in the pattern of pop up thunderstorms but most are hit or miss and most of the area still in much need of rain. Slaughter cows and bulls made up 2%, less than 1% replacements and 98% feeders. The feeder supply consisted of 70% steers and bulls, 30% heifers, nearly 77% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, 300 to 400 lbs., 173.50 to 181.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 151.00 to 165.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 139.50 to 144.50, calves 135.50 to 137.00; lot 733 lb., calves 129.00; 750 to 800 lbs., 132.00 to 135.25; 800 to 850 lbs., 122.50 to 130.00; loads 871 lbs., 119.50; lot 956 lbs., 115.50.
