Dalhart livestock auction report
The Cattleman’s Livestock Auction, Dalhart, Texas, reported receipts of 1,210 head selling on May 24, compared to 1,816 head a week ago and 1,488 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.
Compared to a week ago, steer and heifer calves under 600 pounds were selling firm. Feeder steers over 600 pounds were selling firm to $2 higher. Feeder heifers over 600 pounds were not well tested. Slaughter cows and bulls were selling $1 to $2 higher. The trade area received from one to three inches of much needed rainfall over the past two nights. Trade was fairly active. Demand fairly good. The bulk of the supply was medium and large frame 1 to 2, 350- to 800-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 21%, slaughter bulls less than 1%, replacement cows less than 1% and feeders 79%. The feeder supply included 65% steers and 35% heifers. Nearly 54% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.
