Join us to celebrate 10 years of All Aboard Wheat Harvest

Wheat harvest is quickly moving north, and with it—our annual tribute to the custom harvesting business: All Aboard Wheat Harvest.

This is the 10th year for our All Aboard Wheat Harvest feature, brought to you by High Plains Journal and John Deere.

The story of how All Aboard Wheat Harvest was born is interesting. A decade ago, then-Editor Holly Martin and Pete Weil, who has since retired as national sales manager, had a vision to cover wheat harvest in a new way, with folks embedded in the wheat fields to give readers a more accurate portrayal of the highlights and drama of what harvest is really like. Ten years later, the All Aboard Wheat Harvest campaign has reached tens of thousands of viewers and readers, and changed the way many consumers view how wheat gets from field to table.

This week, on pages C 23 to 24, learn more about custom harvesters Laura Haffner, Hays, Kansas, and Janel Schemper, Holdrege, Nebraska, and read up on the preparations for harvest travel. Last week, we profiled our newest correspondent, Brian Jones, from Greenfield Iowa; and veterans, Tracy Zeorian, from Manley, Nebraska; Lindsey Orgain, from Cheyenne, Oklahoma.

Ten years in, you know how All Aboard Wheat Harvest works: in each week’s High Plains Journal, you can see photos of and read the highlights of harvest activity from our correspondents. On the website www.allaboardharvest.com, there is much more to see. Complete blog posts, more photos from in the field, video blogs, plus multimedia features like “Combine Cam,” a live video feed from the Zeorian’s combine. Of course, the website also features plenty of additional news, giveaways and other fun features. And don’t forget—you can sign up for daily e-mail delivery of the latest All Aboard Wheat Harvest activity.

Plus, follow All Aboard Wheat Harvest on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram (#aawh18) and Flickr.

In a perfect world, this 10th year of All Aboard Wheat Harvest would feature highlights of a record-breaking, bin-busting wheat harvest. That’s not the way it works in farming, unfortunately. Harvest on the High Plains will likely be below average, which will hit both farmers and custom harvesters in the pocketbook. We hope you enjoy the stories and feel free to share them with your friends and family. And check out www.allaboardharvest.com. Enjoy the season!
