Light precipitation benefits crops

Light precipitation benefited crops and pastures over the week ending June 10, according to USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, Mountain Regional Field Office, Montana. The high temperature for the state was recorded in Fort Assiniboine and Roundup at 94 degrees. The low temperature for the week was recorded in West Yellowstone at 27 degrees. Precipitation was reported at 89 weather stations. The highest recorded precipitation for the week was in Lewistown with 2.31 inches of moisture. Topsoil moisture conditions for the state were 86 percent adequate to surplus, above last year’s 44 percent. Subsoil moisture conditions were 79 percent adequate to surplus which is above last year’s 64 percent. Carter County reported hail in many parts of the county, but no crop damage. Chouteau County reported wet conditions leading to problems in the wheat crop, with pythium root rot and wheat stem sawfly observed.
