Springfield dairy heifer sales report

The Springfield Livestock Marketing Center, Springfield, Missouri, reported receipts of 531 head selling on July 24, compared to 631 head a month ago and 608 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Missouri.

Demand was moderate to light, supply was moderate with near 20% springer and bred heifers, 38% open heifers, 06% fresh and milking cows, 09% springer and bred cows and 06% baby calves. The balance was steer calves and slaughter cows. A herd dispersal was in the offering. Most of the bred cows weighted to packer buyers. Holsteins unless otherwise noted. Prices reported on a per head basis.

Springer heifers: Bred seven to nine months, supreme 1000.00 to 1100.00, individual Jersey 1100.00. Approved couple 800.00. Common 500.00 to 600.00. Heifers bred three to six months, Supreme 1025.00 to 1250.00, crossbred individual 1175.00. Approved 800.00 to 1050.00, crossbreds 800.00 to 1030.00. Medium 625.00 to 810.00, crossbreds 570.00 to 725.00. Common 500.00 to 600.00. Heifers bred one to three months: scarce.

Open heifers: Approved 240 to 300 lbs., 225.00 to 250.00; 300 to 400 lbs., 285.00 to 325.00, package 322 lbs., crossbreds 375.00; 425 to 500 lbs., 375.00 to 400.00, package 447 lbs., crossbreds 475.00; 410 to 455 lbs., few Jerseys 635.00 to 725.00; 565 to 585 lbs., 480.00 to 610.00; 535 to 600 lbs., crossbreds 550.00 to 635.00, Jerseys few 750.00 to 760.00; package 775 lbs., 650.00 800 to 875 lbs., 630.00 to 675.00.
