Hub City Livestock Auction report

The Hub City Livestock Auction, Aberdeen, South Dakota, reported receipts of 1,157 head selling on Aug. 1, compared to 1,713 head a week ago, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Compared to a week ago, feeder steers were not well compared due to limited offerings, feeder heifers were selling mostly steady. There was good to very good demand for the offering of yearling steers and heifers. There were several long strings with many full loads. Flesh condition ranged from light to moderate plus, quality was attractive. There were plenty of buyers in the seats actively bidding which made for an active market. Steers made up 10% of the feeder supply, heifers 90%, 100% over 600 pounds.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 38 head, 806 lbs., 160.00; 40 head, 918 lbs., 144.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 14 head, 610 lbs., 175.50 thin fleshed; 8 head, 750 lbs., 160.00. Medium and large frame 2, 6 head, 626 lbs., 152.00.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 15 head, 660 lbs., 156.75; 14 head, 741 to 749 lbs., 149.50; 33 head, 844 lbs., 147.00; 860 to 887 lbs., 129.00 to 142.25 (132.21); 913 to 945 lbs., 125.75 to 133.00 (129.86); 959 to 983 lbs., 125.75 to 133.50 (130.29).
