Newell sheep sales report
The St. Onge to Newell Sheep Yards, Newell, South Dakota, reported receipts of 1,482 head selling on Sept. 6, compared to 1,847 head a week ago and 4,037 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Compared to a week ago, feeder lambs at the 75-pound average were up $9, with over 110 pound lambs dipping to $9 under. There was a higher undertone with the 55-pound average lambs by $30 per hundredweight. Slaughter ewes were selling steady to $7 lower. Feeder lambs made up 95% of the offering. Demand this week was moderate.
Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 37 head, 159 lbs., 49.00. Good 3 to 4, 8 head, 206 lbs., 45.00. Utility 1 to 2, 59 head, 143 lbs., 47.00. Cull 1, 13 head, 130 lbs., 31.00.
Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 53 to 59 lbs., 168.00 to 193.00 (185.93); 66 to 67 lbs., 164.00 to 172.00 (170.73); 75 to 78 lbs., 144.00 to 156.50 (155.89); 80 to 88 lbs., 134.00 to 144.00 (141.66); 96 to 98 lbs., 137.00 to 139.00 (137.77); 40 head, 99 lbs., 141.00 fancy; 100 to 106 lbs., 129.00 to 136.00 (132.57); 112 to 113 lbs., 126.00; 26 head, 121 lbs., 123.00.
