Winter Livestock cattle auction report
The Winter Livestock, Dodge City, Kansas, reported receipts of 2,625 head on Sept. 12, compared to 1,006 head last week and 2,739 head a year ago, according to the USDA-Dodge City Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Dodge City, Kansas.
Feeder steers weighing 700 to 750 pounds were steady to $2 higher and those 750 to 800 pounds were selling $3 to $4 higher. The feeder heifers from 550 to 600 pounds were steady to $2 higher, those 700 to 750 pounds were steady to $1 higher, with all other comparable weights having a slightly higher undertone. There were not enough comparable weights on steer and heifer calves for market trend. The demand was good to very good. The quality was average to mostly attractive. In comparing slaughter cow offerings, the breaker cows were selling $2 to $5 higher, with boning and lean cows steady to $2 higher on few offerings. There were not enough slaughter bulls for market test. The feeder supply was 56% steers and 44% was heifers, with 91% weighing over 600 pounds.
