Newell sheep sales report

The St. Onge to Newell Sheep Yards, Newell, South Dakota, reported receipts of 3,045 head selling on Sept. 13, compared to 1,482 head a week ago and 10,874 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Compared to a week ago, feeder lambs were selling steady to $9 higher. Slaughter ewes were selling higher $1 to $5 overall. Activity for the feeder lambs was moderate with good demand. The feeder lambs made up 90% of the offering.

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 110 head, 176 lbs., 50.00. Good 3 to 4, 46 head, 202 lbs., 48.50. Utility 1 to 2, 114 head, 159 lbs., 49.50. Cull 1, 52 head, 142 lbs., 36.00.

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 27 head, 49 lbs., 207.00; 71 head, 48 lbs., 230.00 thin fleshed; 53 to 57 lbs., 182.00 to 185.00 (184.19); 61 to 67 lbs., 172.00 to 184.00 (180.53); 71 to 76 lbs., 143.00 to 165.00 (153.42); 83 to 89 lbs., 135.00 to 155.00 (148.54); 92 to 99 lbs., 136.00 to 146.00 (140.39); 100 to 109 lbs., 119.00 to 141.00 (137.17); 41 head, 102 lbs., 132.00 Shorn; 111 to 115 lbs., 115.00 to 122.00 (118.32); 36 head, 121 lbs., 124.00.
