McAlester livestock auction report
The McAlester livestock auction, McAlester, Oklahoma, reported receipts of 1,600 head selling on Sept. 18, compared to 2,300 head a week ago and 2,250 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Compared to a week ago, steer calves under 400 pounds were selling $5 to $7 lower, over 400 pounds were selling $1 to $3 higher. Heifer calves were selling $2 to $6 higher, some were trading $10 higher. Demand was very good. Quality was average through attractive. The supply included 25% over 600 pounds, with 41% heifers. Slaughter cows were selling steady to $2 higher. Slaughter bulls were selling $1 lower. A total of 190 cows and bulls sold with 84% going to packers.
