Hub City Livestock Auction report
The Hub City Livestock Auction, Aberdeen, South Dakota, reported receipts of 4,695 head selling on Oct. 3, compared to 4,250 head a week ago and 3,824 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Compared to a week ago, steers 900 to 950 pounds were selling $3 to $5 higher, 951 to 1000 pounds were selling mostly steady, other weight classes were not well compared. Best test was on heifers 800 to 1000 pounds that were selling mostly steady. Good to very good demand for yearling offering. There were many strings, loads and packages available with many of these coming off grass. Slightly less flesh than a week ago on the yearlings with the majority in moderate to moderate plus. Many attractive strings on offer made for ample opportunity to purchase multiple loads of the same producer’s cattle. Steers made up 58% of the feeder cattle, heifers 42%, 97% over 600 pounds.

Large frame 1, 1017 to 1046 lbs., 142.75 to 154.00 (149.73); 6 head, 1050 lbs., 143.00.
