Headgear

If departed old-time punchers returned,

there would surely be a flap

when they saw a new-day puncher

ridin’ in his baseball cap.

They probably wouldn’t say nothin’.

They wouldn’t be that rude.

But they would sure be thinkin’,

“he looks just like a dude.”

His obvious choice in headgear

creates a paradox —

he cowboys in a baseball cap,

and his cowboy hat’s in the box.

But judgin’ a man by his headgear

can be a real deceiver.

More’n half the workin’ cowboys

can’t afford a ten X beaver.
