Dalhart livestock auction report

The Cattleman’s Livestock Auction, Dalhart, Texas, reported receipts of 1,238 head selling on Oct. 11, compared to 2,191 head a week ago and 3,025 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to a week ago, limited receipts of pre-conditioned steer and heifer calves under 600 pounds were selling weak to $2 lower, fleshy kinds were selling $3 to $5 lower. Feeder steers and heifers over 600 pounds were not well tested but a lower undertone was noted. Most of the trade area has received 3 to 5 inches of rain and boggy pens and muddy pastures made for reluctant buyers. Slaughter cows were selling steady, slaughter bulls were not well tested. Quality was mostly attractive and fleshy conditioned. Trade and demand were moderate. The bulk of the supply was medium and large frame 1 to 2, 350- to 750-pounds feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 26%, slaughter bulls less than 1%, replacement cows less than 1% and feeders 74%. The feeder supply included 57% steers and 43% heifers. Near 37% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.
