Amarillo Livestock Auction report
The Amarillo Livestock Auction, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 385 head selling on Oct. 15, compared to 1,178 head Oct. 1 and 1,234 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.
Compared to the Oct. 1 sale, yearling steers and heifers were selling steady to $2 lower. Stocker calves were selling with a higher undertone. Trade activity was light to moderate on moderate demand. Freezing temperatures and chances of light snow over the weekend curbed receipts. Slaughter cows and bulls were selling steady. Slaughter cows and bulls made up 6%, less than 1% replacements and 94% feeders. The feeder supply consisted of 18% steers and bulls, 82% heifers, nearly 61% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.
Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 3 head, 486 lbs., 179.00; 5 head, 500 to 528 lbs., 164.00 to 174.00 (167.87); 11 head, 583 lbs., 157.00; 10 head, 712 lbs., 137.00 calves.
Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 2 head, 445 lbs., 149.00; 15 head, 459 to 494 lbs., 154.00 to 155.50 (154.48); 8 head, 578 lbs., 138.50; 600 to 647 lbs., 131.00 to 135.50 (134.98) calves; 12 head, 673 lbs., 128.50 calves; 4 head, 876 lbs., 111.00 fleshy. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 3 head, 346 lbs., 150.00; 3 head, 357 lbs., 158.00; 4 head, 442 lbs., 140.00; 71 head, 773 lbs., 142.50; 11 head, 767 lbs., 126.00 full.
Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 3 head, 475 lbs., 160.00; 3 head, 550 lbs., 129.00.
Slaughter cows: Boning, 80 to 85% lean, 1100 to 1500 lbs., 47.50 to 51.50; high dressing, 55.00; low dressing, 45.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1200 lbs., 47.50 to 52.50.
Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1700 lbs, 75.00; high dressing, 1960 lbs., 80.00.
Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to aged, 1100 to 1200 lbs., 1 to 6 months bred 700.00 to 825.00 per head.
