Newell sheep sales report
The St. Onge Newell Sheep Yards, Newell, South Dakota, reported receipts of 2,122 head selling on Nov. 8, compared to 2,730 head a week ago and 2,901 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Compared to a week ago, feeder lambs under 80 pounds were selling $3 to $8 lower. Feeder lambs over 80 pounds were selling $5 to $9 higher. Feeder lambs were moderately fleshed. Market was active again this week with additional buyers. The extra buying power affected the slaughter ewes resulting in them selling $4 to $9 higher. Demand was moderate. Feeder lambs made up 77% of the market, 23% was slaughter ewes, replacement ewes and bucks.
Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 66 head, 175 lbs., 56.00. Good 3 to 4, 13 head, 223 lbs., 49.00. Utility 1 to 2, 31 head, 160 lbs., 51.00. Cull 1, 134 to 136 lbs., 49.50 to 50.00 (49.78).
Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 33 head, 47 lbs., 191.00 to 197.00 (194.09); 44 head, 55 lbs., 201.00; 64 to 65 lbs., 201.00 to 206.00 (202.76); 11 head, 60 lbs., 185.00 full; 73 to 75 lbs., 177.00 to 189.00 (183.15); 80 to 89 lbs., 169.00 to 176.00 (173.98); 90 to 99 lbs., 141.00 to 161.00 (153.65); 100 to 104 lbs., 142.00 to 142.50 (142.32); 23 head, 116 lbs., 127.00. Medium and large frame 2, 65 to 69 lbs., 192.00; 13 head, 87 lbs., 154.00. Large frame 1 to 2, 12 head, 133 lbs., 119.00.
Bucks: Fleshy, 15 @ 262 lbs., 50.00 per hundredweight.
