Newell Sheep sales report

The St. Onge Newell Sheep Yards, Newell, South Dakota, reported receipts of 1,891 head selling on Nov. 15, compared to 2,122 head a week ago and 1,602 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Compared to a week ago, feeder lambs under 60 pounds were selling $14 to $20 higher, over 60 pounds were selling $11 to $23 lower, with the exception of the low 100 pounds were selling $4 higher. Many lambs came off pasture creating an attractive condition. Slaughter ewes were selling steady to $2 lower, culls were too narrow to compare. The market was active with ewe and buck buyers. Demand was moderate. Lambs made up 60% of the market, 22% slaughter ewes and the balance were ewes and bucks. No sale next week due to the Thanksgiving holiday.

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 115 head, 176 lbs., 54.00. Good 3 to 4, 25 head, 218 lbs., 49.00. Utility 1 to 2, 188 head, 158 lbs., 50.00. Cull 1, 97 head, 149 lbs., 42.00.

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 22 head, 45 lbs., 215.00; 52 to 59 lbs., 206.00 to 215.00 (214.36); 60 to 69 lbs., 181.00 to 208.00 (187.60); 71 to 79 lbs., 154.00 to 169.00 (163.27); 84 to 88 lbs., 148.00 to 150.00 (149.90); 93 to 96 lbs., 136.50 to 152.00 (148.74); 24 head, 98 lbs., 124.00 Short Docks; 100 to 105 lbs., 138.50 to 149.50 (146.43); 16 head, 113 lbs., 120.00; 36 head, 124 lbs., 116.00 to 117.00 (116.47). Medium and large frame 2, 21 head, 56 lbs., 201.00.
