Newell sheep sales report
The St. Onge to Newell Sheep Yards, St. Onge, South Dakota, reported receipts of 3,918 head selling on Nov. 29, compared to 1,891 head Nov. 15 and 2,510 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Compared to the Nov. 15 sale, feeder lambs under 70 pounds and over 100 pounds stayed steady. Large strings in the 70, 80 and 90 pounds created a very active market resulting in higher averages that were selling unevenly steady. There was moderate demand with good flesh condition on the lambs. Slaughter ewes were selling $2 lower to $3 higher. The offering was 80% market feeder lambs, 12% were slaughter ewes and the balance were ewes and bucks.
