Pratt cattle auction report
Pratt Livestock, Pratt, Kansas, reported estimated receipts of 2,500 head on Dec. 20, compared to 2,853 head last week and 1,951 head last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Dodge City, Kansas.
This was the mid-session report. Compared to a week ago, the feeder steers weighing 700 to 750 pounds were selling $2 to $4 higher and those 750 to 850 pounds were steady to $4 lower. The feeder heifers weighing 550 to 650 pounds were selling $3 lower and those 700 to 750 pounds were steady to $3 higher. Using a limited test, the steer calves from 400 to 450 pounds had a sharp increase of $10, with a higher undertone noted for weaned calves weighing less than 500 pounds. The heifer calves were mostly steady to $4 higher. Overall, the demand was moderate to good and the quality was mostly average to attractive. The feeder supply was 67% steers and 33% was heifers, with 79% weighing over 600 pounds. There will be no sale next week due to the holidays. The next report will be Jan. 3, 2019.
