Joplin Regional cattle sales report

The Joplin Regional Stockyards, Carthage, Missouri, April 22, reported 100% feeder cattle receipts of 5,243 head selling, compared to 5,158 head a week ago and 6,690 head last head last year, according to the USDA-Missouri Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Jefferson City, Missouri.

Compared to a week ago, feeders were selling steady to $3 higher, except heifers under 550 pounds were selling steady to $2 lower. The supply was nearly a total flip from a week ago with the majority of the cattle being steers and a much larger percent over 600 pounds including several large strings. Demand was good. The supply was moderate with many of the cattle carrying very little flesh and suitable for grazing. The supply included, 100% feeder cattle (54% steers, 40% heifers, 5% bulls). The feeder cattle supply over 600 pounds was 46%.
