Colorado weekly cattle auction summary

The weekly cattle auction summary for Colorado indicated receipts of 7,584 head selling on May 10, compared to 2,785 head a week ago and 3,206 head a year ago, according to the USDA-Colorado Department of Ag Market News, Greeley, Colorado.

The feeder steer market was only tested for 550- to 600-pound steers and the market was trading $8 lower. The heifers were only tested on 500- to 550-pound and 700- to 750-pound heifers and they were trading $3 to $7 lower. The trade activity and the demand were moderate to good on feeder steers and heifers. The demand was very good on feeder Holstein steers. The supply included: 70% feeder cattle as 31% were steers, 35% were dairy steers, 33% were heifers and 1% were bulls; 10% was slaughter cattle as 90% were cows and 10% were bulls; 2% was replacement cattle as 40% were bred cows, 2% were bred heifers and 58% were cow-calf pairs. The feeder cattle supply weighing over 600 pounds was 37%.
