Arkansas weekly cattle auction summary

The Arkansas weekly livestock auction summary indicated receipts of 6,300 head of cattle selling the week ending on July 23, compared to 6,003 the previous reporting period and 5,011 head a year ago, according to the USDA-Arkansas Department of Agriculture Market News, Little Rock, Arkansas.

The total included 5,410 head of feeder cattle, 651 head of slaughter cattle and 239 head of replacement cattle compared to the previous week’s total of 5,137 head of feeder cattle, 608 head of slaughter cattle and 258 head of replacement cattle. A year ago report indicated 4,367 head of feeder cattle, 470 head of slaughter cattle and 174 head of replacement cattle. Compared to the previous week, the feeder and stocker cattle were mostly selling $2 to $6 higher. The slaughter cows and bulls were steady to $2 higher. The supply included 86% feeder cattle with 40% steers, 0% were dairy steers, 44% were heifers and 16% were bulls; 10% was slaughter cattle with 81% cows and 19% were bulls; and 4% was replacement cattle with 14% stock cows, 45% were bred cows, 17% were bred heifers, 14% were cow-calf pairs, 8% were heifer pairs and 2% were bulls. The feeder cattle supply weighing over 600 pounds was 21%.
