A product review by HPJ’s Alissa Weece
For those of you with the Omlet Eglu coops, it’s no secret that these things are built to last, but did you know they also offer winterizing materials? Talk about a game changer! I had my Eglu Pro nestled back in our tree row, but the trees don’t stop the wind or snow as well as I’d like.
The first thing I installed on mine was the heavy duty run tarp. It was so easy to install, with bungee hooks that pull the tarp tight, so you don’t need to worry about the wind catching anything and breaking it. My hens are happy to get protection from the snow and wind. This may become a permanent fixture on my coop, just because it will provide them some shade in the summertime as well. What I loved most about this heavy duty run cover was that it actually is heavy duty, and the price point was spot on. I’ve spent much more on “heavy duty” tarps at the hardware store and the quality doesn’t come close!
The second thing that was installed on my Eglu was the Extreme Weather Jacket. If you’ve ever had pizza delivered, you know that they show up at your door with a jacket that keeps your pizza nice and warm. This is what the Extreme Weather Jacket does for your coop. While the Eglu Pro already promotes temperature control, there’s just some weather that not even the toughest of coops can combat. Again, super easy to install. What I love most about it, though, is the zippered sides that make egg gathering a breeze. The back also has a zippered side to be able to access the inside of your coop, making cleaning, again, easy. It has spots for ventilation as well. It fits around the Eglu Pro snuggly and securely and provides an extra barrier of protection against artic wind blasts, which I’m sure my ladies will enjoy this week since we are supposed to have some pretty frigid weather.

With the ease of installation and the quality of the products, its easy to justify the expense when the value outweighs all other options. I’ll be breathing a bit easier know that my hens are going to be protected from the extra cold weather coming our way.
