Joplin Regional cattle sales report
The Joplin Regional Stockyards, Carthage, Missouri, reported receipts of 6,191 head selling on Aug. 27, compared to 5,170 head a week ago and 4,226 head a year ago, according to the USDA-Missouri Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Jefferson City, Missouri.
Compared to a week ago, the steer and heifer calves were selling steady to $2 lower, with spots $3 to $5 lower on heifer calves. The yearlings were trading firm with good demand for the short supply. Most of the stock were calves in town with many unweaned, as cattlemen continue to pull their stock forward in an effort to salvage some forage. The supply and demand was moderate. The feeder cattle supply included 50% steers, 0% was dairy steers, 43% was heifers and 7% was bulls. The feeder cattle supply weighing over 600 pounds was 45%.
