Springfield cattle market report
The Springfield Livestock Marketing Center, Springfield, Missouri, reported receipts of 2,047 head on Feb. 14, compared to 742 head last week and 2,755 head last year, according to the USDA-Missouri Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Jefferson City, Missouri.
There were too few last week for a good price test. Compared to two weeks ago, the steer calves weighing under 650 pounds were selling $4 to $8 higher, the heifer calves under 600 pounds were selling $5 to $10 higher, and steers over 650 pounds and heifers over 600 pounds were steady to $4 higher. There weas no recent test of Holsteins for a price comparison with a higher undertone was noted. The demand was good and the supply was moderate. The feeder cattle supply included 39% steers, 13% was dairy steers, 43% was heifers and 5% was bulls. The feeder cattle supply over 600 pounds was 57%.
