Boozman selected to chair Senate Ag Committee
On Jan. 7, U.S. Senator John Boozman (R-Arkansas) was formally named chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry for the 119th Congress. Boozman succeeds former U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-Michigan), who previously served as chairwoman. Boozman served as the Ranking Member of the committee in both the 117th and 118th Congress.
The top priority for Congress in 2025 will be to approve a new farm bill. Congress passed an extension of the previous farm bill in late December of 2024, but the old bill is outdated and lacks funding for a number of programs that support farmers. Boozman has said he plans to unite Republicans and Democrats to find solutions for the issues agriculture is facing today by passing a new farm bill.
“It is an honor to serve as Chairman of the Senate Agriculture Committee,” Boozman said in a statement. “There are many pressing needs of agriculture producers that we will work to address including passing a farm bill that provides farmers and ranchers the policies and support they desperately need to continue feeding, clothing and fueling the world. I look forward to working with President Trump and my colleagues to implement an agenda that delivers certainty and predictability for hardworking farm families, improves the regulatory landscape to ensure it’s fair and transparent, and bolsters rural communities.”
