A tree grafting program focusing on pecans is scheduled for March 1 in Marshall.
The event will be held at 6 p.m. at the Harrison County AgriLife Extension office, 102 W. Houston St.
The workshop is free and open to the public, and light snacks will be provided. RSVP at 903-935-8413.
Lamb said the art of grafting trees and plants has faded somewhat, but there is renewed interest in a horticulture method that can improve plant production quality and quantity. He will instruct attendees on two popular grafting methods – the Texas inlay and the four-flap – during the program.
“Grafting allows us to change one variety of pecan to another that we may choose for nut size, taste, disease and pest resistance,” he said. “If you have young pecan trees and would like to incorporate varieties with desirable traits, grafting is an easy way to do that. Older trees can also be grafted. It just takes a little more time.”
