Cafe Chat events help farmers connect with local soil health experts
This spring, the Sustainable Farming Association is hosting an exciting series of Soil Health Cafe Chats at various locations around Minnesota. These free events will feature area farmers who are practicing soil health principles like cover crops, more diverse species, reduction in soil disturbance and adding livestock.
During each Cafe Chat, the featured producers will share their soil health experience, followed by open questions and discussion. In most cases, local Soil and Water Conservation District employees will be on hand to share information about the programs offered in the area.
The Cafe Chats are intentionally informal to encourage discussion and participation, and we welcome all farmers to attend. Each chat begins at 9:30 a.m. with coffee and rolls, with the program to follow from 10 a.m. to noon. Each Cafe Chat is free and open to all; no RSVP is necessary.
Scheduled Cafe Chats include:
March 27—Minnesota Food Association, 14220 Ostlund Trail N, Marine on St. Croix. Speakers include Jake Voit, Minnesota Food Association Soil Health Caretaker; Angela Defenbaugh, Washington County SWCD; and area farmers.
April 2—Vesta Cafe, 139 N Broadway, Vesta. Speakers include farmers Grant & Dawn Breitkreutz and Allen Deutz, Brian Pfarr of Redwood County SWCD and Holly Hatlewick of Renville County SWCD.
April 3—Amboy Cafe, 100 E Main, Amboy. Speakers include farmers Scott Haase and Andy Linder, Kent Solberg, and Blue Earth and Faribault counties’ SWCD personnel.
