Aberdeen livestock auction report
The Hub City Livestock Auction, Aberdeen, South Dakota, reported receipts of 1,548 head on March 28, compared to 5,667 head last week and 8,156 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
A much smaller offering was available than last week. The best comparison was on steers weighing 900 to 950 pounds that were selling $3 to $4 higher while other weight classes of steers and heifers were not well tested for comparison. There was moderate to good demand for this offering of mostly packages with just a handful of loads available. There were several packages of fall calves included in the offering. The quality was similar to last week with the stock average to attractive, with mostly moderate flesh overall. The steers made up 64% of the feeder supply, the heifers were 36% and 86% were over 600 pounds.
