Aberdeen livestock auction report
The Hub City Livestock Auction, Aberdeen, South Dakota, reported receipts of 4,943 head on April 11, compared to 1,280 head last week and 5,083 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
There was too light of an offering last week to develop an accurate trend compared to this large offering. The demand for light fleshed grass/back grounding type cattle remains good to very good with finshing type cattle met with more moderate to good demand depending largely on how much flesh they are carrying. There were many loads and packages, including a few packages of fall calves, both weaned and unweaned, and one large string in the offering with quality being largely attractive. The flesh condition was moderate to moderate plus with some heavy flesh at times. Steers made up 44% of the feeder supply and heifers were 56%, with 96% weighing over 600 pounds.
