Every little bit helps

On May 2 we had a 60 percent chance of rain. I sat at my desk, trying to write a story, only to be distracted by the radar and what was going on outside. About lunchtime I noticed we were under a tornado watch.

I was pumped to see the band of rainstorms headed to Dodge City about 1 p.m. I checked it periodically and zoomed in to see if it was raining at my house north of town. I got pretty excited when it looked as if it was.

Imagine after hearing the rain pour down onto the roof of our office building and smell the great after storm rain smell to get home and it looked like it hadn’t even rained. I was disappointed to say the least. I’ve been trying to stay positive and see the brighter side of things, but honestly, this felt like a kick in the pants. We’d only gotten .10 of an inch of rain in our rain gauge. The farm in Clark County, however, received 1.5 inches.

As I was walking across our yard to do chores last night I noticed the grass, which is mostly buffalo grass. It looked like it had gotten just enough moisture to perk up and grow a little since the night before. The cooler temps, lack of wind and a little bit of mist/fog this morning, gave me a little more hope for continued optimism when it comes to rain in my area. I will continue to pray for rain.
