Until the last few years, anyone who accompanied me in a vehicle was forced to play my version of “Name that Tune.” If a commercial came on, or the station didn’t play a song I liked, I’d turn the dial to another station, repeating the exercise over and over until I was satisfied with the programming. It was an irksome endeavor for all involved.
And then podcasts came along.
I spend a lot of time driving, so podcasts are a perfect medium for me. There are tons of programming choices on an array of topics. There is a podcast for nearly every subject, from books to music to sports and trivia. Literally, there are podcasts available for everything, including the kitchen sink.
However, I have yet to find an agricultural-based podcast that I love. Until now. High Plains Journal is proud to offer our new podcast, HPJ Talk. It’s available on iTunes, or wherever you find your podcasts, and we hope you’ll listen to it.
Associate Editors Jennifer M. Latzke and Kylene Scott have taken the lead on the podcast. They have devoted a lot of time and energy into developing the first one, which was recorded last week and features an interview with Doug Rich, the Journal’s longtime senior field editor, who retired earlier this month. It’s a fascinating listen, and we think you’re going to enjoy it. There are other features in this inaugural podcast, but you’ll have to listen to it to see what they are!
We plan to offer new recordings regularly, and you can subscribe to them on your favorite podcast feed, or just check our podcast page, www.hpj.com/podcasts. There you will soon find a schedule of HPJ Talk episodes. We plan to offer additional podcasts, too, including regular interviews with the correspondents on the All Aboard Wheat Harvest Tour, which kicks off in a few weeks. (This is the 10th year for AAWH, so be sure to check out allaboardharvest.com for a fresh new site and a new face on this year’s crew!)
All of us at High Plains Journal are proud to continue to bring to you new ways to enjoy agriculture news in the format you want—whether it is the Journal in your mailbox or email inbox each week; our new HPJ Direct newsletters that allow you to pick the news categories you want for the freshest news each week; our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages; or HPJ Talk.
Thank you for being a reader of High Plains Journal and soon—we hope you’ll be a listener, too.
