Aberdeen livestock auction report
The Hub City Livestock Auction, Aberdeen, South Dakota, reported receipts of 6,801 head on June 6, compared to 3,158 head two weeks ago and 4,917 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
No feeder cattle were reported last week. Compared to two weeks ago, best test was on steers weighing 900 to 950 pounds and 1,000 to 1,050 pounds was selling $8 to $9 higher and those 1,051 to 1,100 pounds were mostly steady. The best test was on heifers weighing 700 to 800 pounds were steady to $1 higher and those 850 to 950 pounds were selling $4 to $9 higher. The large offering was met with good to very good demand depending on flesh condition, which ranged from moderate to some heavy at times. Many strings, loads and packages were offered with buyers often taking multiple loads of the same cattle when offered. It was an active market that got stronger as the sale progressed. The quality was attractive throughout the sale. The offering included 45% steers and 55% was heifers, with 98% weighing over 600 pounds.
