St. Onge Newell Sheep sales report
The St. Onge Newell Sheep Yards, St. Onge, South Dakota, reported receipts of 1,114 head selling on June 7, compared to 852 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture market News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
This was the first reported sale of the spring lamb marketing season, therefore no price comparison was available. There was moderate to good demand for this nice offering of attractive quality feeder lambs. There was light to moderate demand for slaughter ewes. Feeder lambs made up 79% of the offering, 18% slaughter ewes and bucks, with 3% ewes returning to the country.
Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 66 head, 178 lbs., 40.00. Good 3 to 4, 8 head, 163 lbs., 37.00; 211 to 250 lbs., 35.00 to 37.75 (37.58). Utility 1 to 2, 46 head, 157 lbs., 38.50. Cull 1, 21 head, 131 lbs., 27.00.
Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 60 to 65 lbs., 183.00 to 192.00 (188.63); 127 head, 71 lbs., 187.00; 83 to 85 lbs., 181.00 to 192.00 (190.77); 18 head, 90 lbs., 182.00; 9 head, 91 lbs., 155.50 Short Docks; 100 to 107 lbs., 155.00 to 168.00 (162.15). Medium and large frame 2, 5 head, 45 lbs., 186.00. Medium frame 1 to 2, 6 head, 82 lbs., 162.00.
Ewes: Returning to the country, medium and large frame 1 to 2, young in medium flesh, 18 head, 165 lbs., 135.00 per head.
