Newell sheep sales report

The St. Onge Newell Sheep Yards, Newell, South Dakota, reported receipts of 636 head selling on July 19, compared to 1,114 head a week ago, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

This sale was slightly smaller with feeder lambs making up 90% of the offering. Compared to a week ago, lamb prices were down. There was light to moderate demand for feeder lambs. There was moderate to good demand for slaughter ewes making up 10% of the offering, and prices slightly higher than they were a week ago.

Slaughter lambs: Shorn Choice 1 to 2, 22 head, 143 lbs., 43.00.

Slaughter ewes: Good 1 to 3, 124 to 143 lbs., 44.00. Utility 1, 6 head, 149 lbs., 44.00.

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 50 head, 87 lbs., 146.00; 91 to 98 lbs., 141.00 to 148.50 (147.13). Medium frame 1 to 2, 6 head, 63 lbs., 161.00. Large frame 1 to 2, 6 head, 118 lbs., 131.00.
