No improvement in drought conditions
The statewide average rainfall total for the week ending July 22 was 0.34 of an inch, with the north central district recording the highest precipitation at 0.87 of an inch, according to USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, Southern Plains Regional Field Office, Oklahoma. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, drought conditions were rated 30 percent severe to exceptional, up 3 points from the previous week. Additionally, 9 percent of the state was in the extreme to exceptional drought category, unchanged from the previous week. Topsoil and subsoil moisture conditions were rated mostly short to adequate. There were 6.5 days suitable for fieldwork.
Oats harvested reached 95 percent, down 3 points from the previous year but unchanged from normal.
Corn silk reached 72 percent, up 10 points from the previous year. Corn dough reached 8 percent. Sorghum headed reached 40 percent, up 5 points from the previous year. Sorghum coloring reached 11 percent, down 9 points from the previous year but up 4 points from normal. Soybeans blooming reached 39 percent, up 17 points from the previous year. Soybeans setting pods reached 11 percent, unchanged from the previous year. Peanuts pegging reached 56 percent, up 5 points from the previous year. Cotton squaring reached 70 percent, up 7 points from the previous year. Cotton setting bolls reached 30 percent, up 10 points from the previous year and up 8 points from normal.
