Salina livestock auction report
The Farmers and Ranchers Livestock Commission Co., Salina, Kansas, reported receipts of 3,522 head selling on July 19, compared to 2,986 head a week ago and 3,599 head last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News, Dodge City, Kansas.
Compared to a week ago, feeder steers 650 to 750 pounds were selling $4 to $6 higher, 750 to 900 pounds were selling steady to $2 higher. There were not enough over 900 pounds and under 650 pounds for a comparison, although a higher undertone was noted. Heifers 550 to 800 pounds were selling $3 to $5 higher, in 550 pounds and under, a higher undertone was noted. Trade was active, demand good as many cattle were fresh off of the native pastures and rangeland. The feeder supply included 55% steers and 45% heifers, with 79% 600 pounds and over.
