Hay trade light to moderate
In Kansas, hay market trade activity is light to moderate. Prices mostly steady with firm undertones for all hay types. Demand remains very good for all hay of types, according to the Kansas Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, July 24. Prices given on a per-ton basis, unless otherwise noted.
Southwest:
Dairy alfalfa, grass hay, steady, grinding alfalfa steady, ground and delivered steady to $5 higher, movement slow. Alfalfa, horse, premium, small squares, $280-$300. Dairy, 1.00-1.05/point RFV, supreme $185-$200; premium, $170-$195; good, $160-$170. Stock or dry cow alfalfa, none reported. Fair/good grinding alfalfa, $170-$180. Ground and delivered locally to feedlots and dairies, $195-$205, with an instance at $215-$225. Grass hay, pasture mix, small squares, $8-$9/bale. Cornstalks, large rounds, $60-$70, ground and delivered $95-$105. Wheat hay, large squares, $110-$120. Wheat straw, large rounds, $65-$75. For the week ending July 21, 9,048 tons of grinding alfalfa and 1,325 tons of dairy alfalfa were delivered.
South central:
Dairy alfalfa, ground and delivered, grass hay, alfalfa pellets steady, grinding alfalfa steady to $20 higher, movement slow. Horse alfalfa, small squares, $190-$200. Dairy, 1.00-1.05/point RFV, supreme, $185-$200; premium, $170-$195; good, $160-$170. Stock cow alfalfa, $145-$160 delivered. Fair/good grinding alfalfa, $160-$170, with an instance at $180. Northwest:
