For the week ending Sept. 2, there were 5.1 days suitable for fieldwork, according to USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, Northern Plains Regional Field Office, Nebraska. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 1 percent very short, 13 short, 79 adequate, and 7 surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 1 percent very short, 15 short, 80 adequate, and 4 surplus.

Corn condition rated 1 percent very poor, 5 poor, 13 fair, 52 good, and 29 excellent. Corn dough was 97 percent, equal to last year, and near 95 for the five-year average. Dented was 72 percent, ahead of 66 last year and 64 average. Mature was 9 percent, equal to last year, and near 7 average.

Soybean condition rated 1 percent very poor, 5 poor, 13 fair, 56 good, and 25 excellent. Soybeans dropping leaves was 15 percent, ahead of 7 last year and 10 average.

Winter wheat planted was 1 percent, equal to last year, and near 2 average.

Sorghum condition rated 0 percent very poor, 1 poor, 15 fair, 56 good, and 28 excellent. Sorghum coloring was 75 percent, ahead of 61 last year and 63 average. Mature was 7 percent, near 5 last year and 3 average.
