Corn harvest almost to halfway point (Oklahoma)
Most of the state recorded less than a half inch of precipitation for the week ending Sept. 30, with exception of the central and southwest districts, which recorded 0.50 of an inch and 1.41 inches, respectively, according to USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, Southern Plains Regional Field Office, Oklahoma. Statewide, temperatures averaged in the high 60s. Topsoil and subsoil moisture conditions were rated mostly adequate to short. There were 6.1 days suitable for fieldwork.
Winter wheat planted reached 41 percent, up 13 points from the previous year and up 2 points from normal. Winter wheat emerged reached 5 percent, up 3 points from the previous year but down 4 points from normal.
Corn mature reached 87 percent, up 11 points from the previous year. Corn harvested reached 48 percent, up 2 points from the previous year but down 8 points from normal. Sorghum coloring reached 90 percent, unchanged from the previous year. Sorghum mature reached 57 percent, down 3 points from the previous year. Sorghum harvested reached 27 percent, down 5 points from the previous year. Soybeans setting pods reached 95 percent, up 5 points from the previous year. Soybeans dropping leaves reached 43 percent, up 2 points from the previous year and up 14 points from normal. Soybeans harvested reached 10 percent, unchanged from the previous year. Peanuts mature reached 50 percent, up 3 points from the previous year. Cotton bolls opening reached 59 percent, up 4 points from the previous year. Cotton harvested reached 3 percent, up 1 point from the previous year and up 3 points from normal.
