Plains Cotton Growers annual meeting April 1

The 68th annual meeting of Plains Cotton Growers Inc. is scheduled for April 1, at the Overton Hotel and Conference Center in Lubbock, Texas.
The program will begin at 8:30 a.m. and include multiple speakers and address timely topics.
Joe Nicosia served as the 2024 chairman of the National Cotton Council and he has been a cotton merchant since 1985. He brings a vast array of expertise on cotton markets and insight on the United States cotton industry’s global position as a cotton supplier and our future competitiveness in a global market. He will speak at 8:45 a.m.
A world-renowned photographer, Paul Mobley decided to take a break from work and tour the countryside. Of course, his vacation became a 100,000-mile trek capturing photos of farmers in their environments. He brings a presentation with beautiful photographs on lessons he’s learned from the American farmer to this year’s annual meeting.
Whether it’s a celebrity promoting his or her latest project or a 100-year-old farmer celebrating his family’s legacy, Mobley approaches his work the same way—he aims to capture the soul of the subject and present a compelling portrait that is authentic and timeless. Mobley will be the keynote speaker at 11:45 a.m.
Additionally, a consumer panel from the local/regional area to discuss why they make the choices they do on apparel, as well as a discussion on how current consumer thought process should influence product marketing. Organizers expect this to be an eye-opening discussion on how the cotton industry can maintain relevance with customers in today’s landscape and in the future.
PCG President and Lynn County Producer Travis Mires will provide a president’s report and PCG CEO Kody Bessent will provide an overall update of the PCG organization; the ongoing pursuit of a new farm bill; and what that looks like in a new administration and political environment.
Also three breakout sessions following the general session focused on the following: marketing and hedging, the next generation of production agriculture and what to expect (trials and trivial experiences) and FarmHope—how to address mental health in a time of need.
