Feeder steers and heifers higher ahead of July 4 holiday
The Winter Livestock Auction, Dodge city, Kansas, reported receipts of 1,747 head June 27, compared to 934 head last week and 952 head last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Dodge City, Kansas.
Compared to last week, feeder steers 700 to 900 pounds sold firm to $3 higher. Feeder heifers 650 to 800 pounds sold firm to $3 higher on an extremely light test. Not enough steer and heifer calves for a market test, however a firm to higher undertone was noted. Trade and demand was active. Slaughter cows and bulls sold firm to $3 higher. The feeder supply was 70% steers, 30% heifers with 92% 600 pounds and over. Slaughter cows and bulls sold firm to $3 higher. No sale next week due to the July 4th holiday.
