Brush management topic of Sept. 18 meeting in Post
Producers from the Central Texas and South Plains area can hear the latest information on brush management at the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service’s 2018 Garza County Brush Control Day on Sept. 18.
The meeting will begin with registration at 9 a.m. in the Post Community Center, 115 Main St. in Post. There will be a $15 fee to attend and it includes lunch provided by Garza-Lynn County Farm Bureau.
“Our ag committee here at Garza County thought it would be a great idea to learn more about brush control,” said Tarlton Holloway, AgriLife Extension agriculture and natural resources agent for Garza County. “In this county, we have very few acres of farm country, but a large amount of our ranch country is overwhelmed with cedar, salt cedar and mesquite trees.
“Our committee is made up mostly of cow/calf producers who need more grass in their pastures and less brush taking up their water. We hope producers from all around will join us to learn more about how to control their brush.”
Morgan Treadwell, AgriLife Extension range specialist at San Angelo, and Glenn Killough, U.S. Department of Agriculture-Natural Resources Conservation Service soil conservationist in Post, will address the following topics: brush control management, efficiency of cost of chemical and determining when to spray.
One general Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education unit will be offered.
