John Deere adds new 457 standard round baler to equipment line

John Deere announces the addition of a new economy round baler especially suited for smaller farm operations and low-acreage hay producers. The new machine produces a bale 46-inches wide and up to 60-inches tall, weighing up to 1000 pounds in dry crop.

The new baler features a small diameter, low profile hay pick-up mounted close to the baler wheels.

“This new baler is very simple to operate and only requires a minimum 55-PTO horsepower tractor,” says Ryan Schmidt, senior marketing representative, John Deere Ottumwa Works. “This baler will be ideal for customers who have lower annual bale usage per year and are looking for an economical system to bale hay for their operation.”

The new baler features a small diameter, low profile hay pick-up mounted close to the baler wheels. This design facilitates excellent ground gauging and clean crop retrieval. It feeds hay directly to the forming chamber and minimizes hay lift to reduce chaffing and ensure good hay quality.

“Operators will really appreciate the easy adjustment for bale size,” explains Schmidt. “The bale diameter can be adjusted from 32- to 60-inches to meet weight and size requirements and will help with feeding and handling in many different applications.”

The 457 Standard Baler features a staggered belt design to reduce the loss of fine material. The exclusive 3-ply nylon-polyester diamond tread belts enclose 91 percent of the bale width to retain bale quality and minimize hay loss. The staggered belt roll design enables any loose hay under or behind the belts to be returned to the pickup and into the baler.

The new 457 Standard Round Baler is designed with excellent hay-handling capabilities at an economical price.

“A hydraulic density control system ensures uniform density throughout the bale to create even, firm bales,” says Schmidt. “These bales will hold their shape for easy transport and for better hay storage.”

Mechanical bale formation indicators mounted on the front of the baler allow the operator to form consistent uniform bales. The indicators are easily visible on the front of the baler allowing the operator to make great looking, dense bales.

An audible bale size system alerts the operator the bale is nearing full size so the operator can weave if necessary to insure a dense, square shouldered bale is formed. It then goes silent when the desired size is reached. A final alarm sounds again to warn of an oversized bale.

“Double hydraulic twine arms are featured on the new balers,” says Schmidt. “They are 45-percent faster than a single twine arm and faster wrapping means more bales per hour. The twine arms are easily adjustable from 2-, 4-, 6-, or 8-inch spacings so the operator can select the right amount of twine to meet handling and storage requirements.”

Other features include a four-ball twine box on the right-hand side of the machine for extra twine capacity and Goodyear flotation tires (standard equipment) that provide good flotation and baler ride quality.
