HPJ – Print Frequency Change FAQ
A Message to Our Readers
At High Plains Journal, we’ve always taken pride in delivering trusted, timely information to rural America. For decades, that’s meant showing up in your mailbox every week, without fail. Beginning in May 2025, we’re adjusting that rhythm — moving from 52 print issues per year to 26.
This change reflects both the rising cost of printing and mailing, and the growing ways our readers stay informed — through digital content, email newsletters, and mobile access. Our commitment to you remains the same: to provide high-quality ag news, insights, and community coverage that keeps you connected to the High Plains and beyond.
Below, you’ll find answers to the most common questions we’ve received about this transition. If you don’t see your question here, we encourage you to call us at 620-227-1836 or visit hpj.com/subscribe.
General Questions
1. Why are you changing the frequency of the print edition?
For generations, High Plains Journal has been proud to show up in your mailbox every week — rain, shine, or harvest. That weekly rhythm has been part of life on the Plains for decades, and we don’t take lightly the decision to shift from 52 issues a year to 26. This change is driven by two realities: rising print and postage costs, and the growing demand for digital content that’s faster and more flexible. By moving to a biweekly print schedule, we can preserve the quality and depth you expect in each issue, while also investing in a stronger digital experience — one that keeps you informed and connected between print deliveries. Our commitment to serving farmers, ranchers, and rural communities hasn’t changed. We’re simply adapting how we deliver that service to ensure High Plains Journal stays strong for the next generation.
2. When will the new print schedule take effect?
The new biweekly print schedule will begin in May 2025, with the first issue arriving the week of May 12. From that point forward, High Plains Journal will be delivered every other week through the end of the year. We’ll follow a regular schedule so you’ll always know when your next issue is on the way.
3. How often will I receive the print edition now?
Beginning in May, you’ll receive High Plains Journal 26 times a year, arriving every other week. These biweekly issues will continue to deliver the trusted coverage you rely on — from ag markets and rural policy to weather, features, and editorials — just packaged in a slightly different rhythm.
4. Is the publication going away or shutting down?
Not at all. High Plains Journal isn’t going anywhere. We’re just changing how we deliver the Journal so it stays strong and sustainable for the long haul. This isn’t the end — it’s a shift to better meet the needs of today’s readers, both in print and online. You can still count on us for the same trusted ag news, community stories, and rural insights you’ve come to expect.
5. Will the content be reduced or different because of the change?
No — in fact, many of our biweekly print editions will be larger and more in-depth, with more thoughtful coverage in each issue. And while not every story will appear in print, we’ll be expanding our digital content to keep you up to date between issues. You’ll still get the same trusted voices, regional focus, and ag expertise — just delivered through a mix of print and digital formats that work together to bring you even more value.
Subscription & Pricing
6. Does this change affect my current subscription or its cost?
If you have an active subscription, there will be no change to your current pricing. We’re making each issue more robust and expanding what’s available to you digitally — all without raising prices. We’re committed to making sure you continue to get great value for your subscription. That said, due to rising printing and postage costs, new or expired print subscriptions will follow updated standard rates. Our digital-only pricing remains unchanged. To learn more, including current rates and promotional offers, please visit hpj.com/subscribe. Use promo code NEWFC25 at checkout to get a discount off the new standard rates.
7. Will I get a refund or extension for the fewer print issues?
We’re not issuing refunds or extensions, because we’re focusing on delivering more value in every biweekly issue — with expanded coverage, deeper stories, and enhanced digital content to keep you informed between print editions. As a thank-you for your loyalty, we’re offering FREE ADMISSION TO HPJ LIVE IN 2025 for all current subscribers. It’s our way of showing appreciation during this transition. To redeem your gift, just contact our customer service team to receive your promotion code and register. We understand that change isn’t always easy. If you have concerns or wish to adjust your subscription, we’re here for you. Please call us at 620-227-1836 — we’re happy to talk through your options and help however we can.
8. Can I switch from a print subscription to a digital one (or vice versa)?
Yes! We’re happy to help you switch between subscription types. If you’d prefer to go fully digital — or if you want to make sure you’re getting the print edition along with digital access — just reach out to our subscriber services team, and we’ll make the change that fits your needs.
9. How do I renew or adjust my subscription under the new frequency?
You can renew your subscription the same way you always have — online, by mail, or by calling our team. If you want to adjust your subscription type or have questions about your renewal options, we’re here to help make the process simple and flexible.
10. Will there still be a free digital version available?
Yes, we’ll continue offering a free digital option for readers who want basic access to select content. However, premium content — including expanded stories, analysis, and certain special features — will be reserved for paid digital and print subscribers. We’ll be rolling out more details soon about the digital options available.
Content & Access
11. Will I miss out on news or features with fewer print issues?
No — our goal is to make sure you don’t miss a thing. With each biweekly print edition, we’re delivering more robust coverage, bundled into a larger, more comprehensive issue. Plus, our digital content and newsletters will keep you updated between print deliveries, so you stay informed in real time.
You’ll continue to get all the topics you care about — markets, ag policy, features, community stories, weather, and more — just spread across both platforms. You can sign up for customized updates at hpj.com/newsletters.
12. Where can I find the content that won’t appear in the print edition?
You can find it all at hpj.com. We’ll be publishing more content online, including breaking news, timely updates, and extras that don’t fit in the biweekly print format.
If you’re a subscriber, you’ll also have access to premium digital content — articles, insights, and features curated especially for our loyal readers. And don’t forget to subscribe to our email newsletters at hpj.com/newsletters so you never miss a story.
13. Will premium content be included in the print version?
Yes — print subscribers will continue to receive premium content in their issues. However, some of our digital-only premium content will be exclusive to subscribers online, such as early access to features, bonus coverage, or in-depth analysis. We’re designing the print and digital experiences to complement each other and provide even more value when combined.
14. How often will the digital content be updated?
Our website, hpj.com, is updated regularly — multiple times a week, often daily — so you can always find fresh stories, breaking news, and timely information.
You don’t have to wait for a print issue to stay in the know. You can also subscribe to our newsletters at hpj.com/newsletters and get the latest headlines delivered straight to your inbox.
Digital Transition
15. I prefer print — is it still worth subscribing?
Yes — your print subscription still gives you access to the content you know and trust, in the format you enjoy. But now, it also comes with expanded digital access, giving you the best of both worlds. You’ll get deeper biweekly print editions and the ability to stay updated in between through hpj.com and our newsletters. Whether you stick with print or explore our digital tools, we’re here to keep you informed.
16. How do I access the digital edition or premium digital content?
You can access digital content anytime at hpj.com. If you’re a subscriber, just log in with the email associated with your subscription to unlock premium articles and features. If you haven’t set up your online account yet, our team can help — or you can follow the “Log In” or “Subscribe” prompts on the website to get started.
17. Do I need a password or special login for the digital edition?
Yes — to access subscriber-only content, you’ll need to create or log into your HPJ account using the email linked to your subscription. If you’re not sure how to log in, or need help resetting your password, our customer service team is just a phone call or email away.
18. Will there be an app or email newsletter?
While we don’t have a dedicated app at this time, our website is mobile-friendly, so you can read HPJ content easily on your phone or tablet. We also offer email newsletters tailored to your interests — from markets and livestock to policy and rural life. You can sign up anytime at hpj.com/newsletters.
19. Can I print articles from the digital edition at home?
Yes, you can! Most articles on hpj.com include a print-friendly option, so you can easily print individual stories or pages at home if you prefer to read offline or save a copy for reference.
