Georgia livestock auction summary
The summary of livestock auctions in Georgia for the week ending on Jan. 19, totaled 5,888 head, compared to 8,405 head last week and 12,325 head last year, according to the USDA-Georgia Department of Agriculture Market News, Thomasville, Georgia.
Compared to a week ago, the slaughter cows and slaughter bulls were unevenly steady, the feeder steers, feeder bulls and feeder heifers were steady to $3 higher, the steer calves wre steady to $3 higher, the bull calves and heifer calves were mostly selling $2 to $4 higher and the replacement cows were steady to $2 higher. There were light receipts and limited market coverage due to inclement weather. The offering included 12% steers and slaughter cows, 2% was slaughter bulls, 13% was feeders weighing over 600 pounds, 64% was feeders under 600 pounds, 9% was feeder cows, 11% was feeder steers, 32% was feeder heifers and 34% was feeder bulls.
