Clovis cattle auction report
The Clovis Livestock Auction, Clovis, New Mexico, reported receipts of 2,595 head on Jan. 17, compared to 4,278 head last week and 2,137 head last year, according to the New Mexico Department of Agriculture-LPGMN Division USDA Market News, Clovis, New Mexico.
Compared to a week ago, the feeder steers and heifers were mostly selling $3 to $6 higher with instances of $7 to $15 higher on 300- to 400-pound heifers and 700- to 800-pound heifers though the quality animals were more attractive. The slaughter cows were selling $3 higher and the bulls were steady on limited receipts. The trade was very active and the demand was very good. The bulk of the supply was medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300- to 800-pound feeder steers and heifers. The slaughter cows were 3% of the offering, the bred cows were 4%, the pairs less than 1% and the feeders were 92%. In the feeder supply, steers made up approximately 54% of the run, heifers were 44%, feeder bulls were 2% and steers and heifers weighing over 600 pounds totaled 50%.
